Your clients are asking for your carbon footprint. Here is what you need to answer them, free of charge.
CadranZero is the platform where Swiss watchmaking suppliers declare the footprint of their parts once, then share it with every house that asks for it. For you, everything is free.
Why it is free for you
Only the watchmaking houses fund the platform. Suppliers pay nothing, not on registration, not in use, not later.
The reason is not commercial but methodological: charging whoever produces the data means going without the data. A house that wants a scope 3.1 built on real measurements needs its hundreds of suppliers to declare. If they have to be invoiced for it, most will not declare, and the house falls back on spend-based ratios.
The four tools, all included
Product LCA
You declare a part's footprint stage by stage across the life cycle: materials, manufacturing, upstream transport, distribution, use, end of life. The calculation follows the methodological framework of the ISO 14040 and 14044 standards. Every line cites the emission factor chosen, its source and its reference location, which lets you defend the figure before an auditor.
An LCA is worked on as a draft, finalised, then published. Until it is published, no one but you sees it. Successive versions are kept, with the date and the author of each step.
Corporate carbon inventory
Your company's footprint, scopes 1, 2 and 3, with the breakdown across the fifteen GHG Protocol categories and the year-on-year trajectory. It is often a client's first request, and here it comes at no extra cost.
Regulatory monitoring
The Swiss and European texts that concern you, summarised, filtered for watchmaking and sorted by deadline: 79 regulations in the reference set to date. You do not have to monitor the Official Journal of the European Union yourself.
Method and documentation
Guides and short videos for every step. No prior training is required. What is needed is not a carbon specialist: it is someone who knows the workshop, its material quantities, its processes and its energy use.
What stays strictly private
Your company's carbon inventory is never visible to a house. It belongs to you and it does not circulate.
Your LCAs go only to the houses you designate, part by part, and for each one you choose what it may see, among four levels:
- Private: nothing at all.
- Figure only: the part's total footprint, in kgCO₂e, with no detail at all.
- Partial: the total footprint and its breakdown by life cycle stage.
- Full: the calculation register, with the factors, the quantities and the contributions.
The full level requires your explicit confirmation. A share can be revoked at any time, in one click. And no price information is ever requested: the platform has no cost field at all on the supplier side.
Each company is also isolated within the platform: a resource that does not belong to you does not appear empty, it simply does not exist for you. This isolation is checked by automated tests re-run on every code change.
How much time it takes you
The first LCA takes the longest, because the data has to be gathered: the part's bill of materials and its masses, the processes and their quantities, the workshop's energy use divided by the number of parts, upstream transport and what becomes of the offcuts.
The next ones go much faster. A similar part can be duplicated and adjusted, and emission factors already chosen are found by keyword in a database of 26,954 entries, drawn from ADEME's Base Carbone and the Swiss federal administration's LCI database.
What if I have no sustainability department?
That is precisely the case we had in mind. Most watchmaking suppliers do not have one, and will not have one. The process is broken into short steps, each field states what it expects, and a help centre accompanies every module.
The benefit is concrete: answer once instead of filling in the same questionnaire dozens of times a year, and hold a defensible figure when a client asks for it. Your analyses and your progress become a selling point rather than a chore.
How to get started
If a house has invited you, you have received a link: it opens your space, and there is nothing to pay and nothing to negotiate.
Otherwise, write to us: we open supplier accounts on request, including without an associated house, so that you can prepare your LCAs before they are asked of you.
